Mike is the Director of Essential HR, Christchurch, which has been providing people management advice to small and medium sized businesses for over 14 years. Mike is a senior HR practitioner and HRINZ Chartered Member. He originally qualified as a Chartered Accountant, working for Deloittes for sixteen years. From there he moved into senior HR management resulting in a broad HR knowledge and sound business acumen.
Prior to starting Freedom HR, Layla has over 12 years HR experience, mostly in large organisations throughout NZ and London. Since Freedom HR was established in Sep 2017, Layla has enjoyed supporting West Coast employers to recruit new staff, draft employment agreements/policies, resolve workplace issues, minimise risk, and lead legally-compliant procedures such as restructures, disciplinary, performance and dealing with excessive absences. She conducts one-to-one leadership coaching in leadership and communication skills. She also has facilitated various workshops such as 4 Co.Starters cohorts, and customised in-house Leadership workshops on improving workplace culture, covering appreciative inquiry, vision and values, reward and recognition, self-awareness (incl. MBTI), and bullying and harassment. Freedom HR’s mission is to improve workplace culture across the West Coast and help people be happier at work, allowing more freedom to enjoy life both inside and outside of work.
