As part of DWC’s commitment to financially supporting significant assets and facilities in West Coast communities it introduced the Major District Initiative Fund (MDI) in 2005.
The MDI provides each of the three Councils with $400,000 each year to assist with the provision of a range of community facilities or social infrastructure. This fund has built or upgraded facilities including the Westport Solid Energy Centre, the Greymouth Aquatic Centre and the Hokitika Regent Theatre.
This initiative commenced on 1st July 2005 with funds accruing for each District Council. The funds are available until 31st March 2022 when this funding ceases and have been commited to the following projects.
