While the area south of Haast has a high passing traffic rate, most of this traffic stream bypasses the many natural attractions of the area.   The nature and extent of future development, the infrastructural issues raised and how this development is managed and funded are inter-twined matters requiring resolution.

The next step is to develop a Tourism Development Strategy with wider input from the community and key stakeholders.
