Since 2001 we have invested up to $10 million annually in businesses, organisations and initiatives that benefit the West Coast. Today business confidence on the West Coast is soaring, unemployment has plummeted to 5 percent and the local economy is booming.
We're supporting and growing tourism on the West Coast. One way we're doing this is through the Major Regional Initiative (MRI). The MRI is designed to build on the West Coast Tourism Strategy and boost tourism in our region. It comprises a portfolio of about 20 tourism projects and includes development of tourism facilities and products, support of small to medium-sized tourism businesses and tourism workforce development.
The whole initiative is expected to benefit the West Coast economy by up to $100 million and create up to 600 new jobs throughout our region.
The updated draft strategic plan forms the benchmark for future development of the West Coast. One of the key challenges identified in the plan is our relative lack of population and the need to attract, upskill and retain people to ensure the strength of our local economy.

Development West Coast is committed to helping local businesses develop and grow. Our Enterprise Training Programme is designed to promote sustainable regional economic development and employment growth in our region. It provides businesses with customised training, support and advice from industry experts.
The programme has been going strong since 2002 and is only getting stronger. Find out what businesses are saying about our training.
Development West Coast is helping young people realise their potential. Education 4 Enterprise (E4E) and the Literacy Programme are just some of the ways we are doing that.
E4E is a community partnership with local schools to create dynamic learning environments, and develop enterprising students. The E4E project is running in 14 schools throughout the region and delivering outstanding results. From making welcome cards to in-depth business planning - West Coast students and teachers are embracing the opportunity to be enterprising.
Our Literacy Programme to boost reading and writing performance in West Coast schools, is also getting results. Find out about the success of the Coast-wide Literacy Programme 2005-2007.
