We're planning for the future by investing in the people of the West Coast. Each year Development West Coast funds and facilitates education and training programmes throughout the region. We also provide business mentoring, training and leadership services.
Development West Coast has invested nearly $1.8m in a literacy programme designed to boost the reading and writing skills of West Coast children.

Got any questions about our education initiatives?
Ask our Education Project's Manager, Nicky Cooper. Nicky says the feedback from schools involved in our programmes has been really positive and students taking part in them are thriving.
One of the current E4E projects requires the design of a Christmas card for DWC. Three schools are involved – Blaketown, South Westland Area and St Mary’s Primary schools. The schools were asked to consider some of the key elements contributing to the West Coast 's economy in a way that uniquely portrays the region yet embracing a true Christmas theme.
Development West Coast recently helped some West Coast students practice their enterprise skills. We facilitated an initiative which saw students from Westland Area School, Westland High and Buller High design and produce artwork on calico bags for 150 delegates at the 2008 Ecotourism NZ Conference in Greymouth.
Reefton School also seized the opportunity, making and packaging chocolate truffles for each conference bag.

They have designed The West Coast Way, a framework to sustain the project and continue its achievements. Development West Coast is backing this initiative. We recently contributed $79,533 towards the implementation of The West Coast Way model.
