Denniston
The Denniston Heritage Charitable Trust, comprising seven trustees representing Solid Energy, Development West Coast, Buller District Council, Friends of the Hill and the Department of Conservation are working on a number of projects to enhance the interpretation of Denniston’s social and industrial history.
The Trust is part of the Development West Coast Major Regional Initiative (MRI) project, and was set up to assist in the preservation and enhancement of the Denniston area, and to coordinate fundraising for the projects.
Work is progressing on scoping out New Zealand’s first underground mine experience, which will allow visitors to Denniston to experience first hand the rigors of life ‘on the hill’. This exciting new project is set to place Denniston and Buller on the map for heritage preservation and tourism.
