The Major Regional Initiative is a partnership between NZTE and DWC in association with other West Coast regional organisations. The main funders have been NZTE $2m and DWC $2.5m to undertake a range of tourism related projects spread across the West Coast. The other regional organisations involved in the governance and management of this project include Tourism West Coast, Department of Conservation, Ngai Tahu, and the three territorial local authorities, Buller, Grey and Westland District Councils.

More than 1,500 enterprising West Coast students have been applying their learning to real life experiences through dozens of practical projects from Harihari to Karamea. E4E aims to develop the competencies, understandings and attributes that will equip young children to be innovative and entrepreneurial. A strong focus of E4E is community partnership.

Development West Coast collaborates with the Crown on a number of regional initiatives i.e. Enterprise Training Programme (Business Training), BIZ Info, Broadband and Telecommunications, Regional Strategic Funding (including Tourism sector initiatives, Minerals sector – minerals resource assessment, Education – Enterprising cultures, marketing and promotion of the West Coast region as a place to live and successfully develop a career).
