Birchfield Minerals Ltd
Allan Birchfield
“The Trust provided the money to do the upgrade which was completed by the end of 2008. The river crossing was made in mid-January in the good weather and the dredge is now back in production. The loan process was pretty quick really; applied in February and was through by June. It was a big loan. The application was not that difficult and did most of the work myself with help from my accountant for the cash flow. I was quite happy dealing with Conrad and Rachel and had no problems.”
In 2008, Development West Coast loaned Birchfield Minerals Limited $2.2 million to recommission the Grey River gold dredge to start mining operations.
This created approximately 15 jobs plus subcontractors and will inject over $9 million into the local economy (based on a gold price of NZ$1,200 per ounce).

“We approached Conrad Anderson of Development West Coast to see if they could help with the funding of our driving range and mini putt. Conrad took us seriously and provided a list of all the requirements we would need to meet before the Trust would look at our application. The rest is history and we have developed an excellent relationship with Conrad and Rachel. When the tornado hit us in March 2005 the Trust were a big help to us with repayment options that allowed us to get back on our feet and continue to develop a great golfing facility.”
In 2004, Development West Coast loaned Greymouth Golf Range $132,000 to assist in building the mini putt and golf range. A further $32,000 was approved after a tornado damaged the premises in March 2005.
Overall Benefits:
- Increased activities (mini golf and a driving range) for visitors and locals;
- Promotion for the game of golf which in turn supports the local golf courses (Greymouth, Hokitika and Westport);
- Creation of 2 direct jobs.
