Major District Initiative

Development West Coast provides support via the three territorial local authorities to assist with the provision of major community facilities. Each Council is to undertake a comprehensive planning and consultant process to identify suitable projects and Development West Coast will fund up to 65% of the capital costs of these MDI identified projects subject to compliance with an agreed policy and conditions.

Community Funding

Development West Coast has taken a step back and rather than being directly involved in community funding it has instead confirmed a financial contribution to the West Coast Community Trust and the Solid Energy Amateur Sports Trust, along with a $2m one off extraordinary distribution to each of the three District Councils.
These organisations are more in touch with the needs of their communities and will enable them to better distribute these funds across the region.
