Research & Development (R&D)

Project Funding

If your business is developing new products, or enhancing existing projects, we want to hear from you.

Business research and development (R&D) is a key driver of innovation, business success and economic growth. Good ideas can lead to new products and services, smarter ways for doing things and a point of difference that sets your business apart.

There are funds available to help you business grow through R&D - whether you are a small start up or a large established exporter.

Investments are assessed individually, but can range from $1,000 to $1 million plus.

Project funding provides support to develop new technology products, processes or services, including UP and freedom to operate. Funding can be awarded to a range of companies, from early stage to mature, and across a broad range of sectors.

Co-funding for projects is available towards the costs of technically challenging R&D projects, generally at a rate of 50%. These projects must lead to business growth.

Capability Funding

People are the driving force behind innovation, business success and economic growth. Good ideas can lead to new products and services, smarter ways of doing things and a point of difference that sets your business apart.

There are funds available to help your business grow through investing in people for R&D.

Capability funding enables both early stage and mature companies to plan successfully for R&D investments.

You can:

  • Engage technical and commercial experts
  • Employ undergraduate, postgraduate, Master's and PhD students to work on technology and commercial R&D projects.

Technology Transfer Voucher

Do you have limited in-house R&D capability and need external R&D expertise?

Technology Transfer Vouchers are currently targeted at high-value manufacturing and service sectors, and aim to increase the transfer of technology and knowledge between research organisations and businesses, and the links between the two.

Vouchers provide 50% funding towards R&D projects to enable a business to access research services and expertise from accredited research organisations.

We don't fund

  • "Business as usual" activities
  • Patent filing costs
  • Generic business planning activities
